Türkiye was Mentioned among the Good Practice Examples in the OECD Report on Shareholder Meetings
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) carries out comparative country reviews in the context of activities aimed at promoting the dissemination, implementation and monitoring of the G20/OECD Corporate Governance Principles (Principles), the fundamental standard accepted worldwide in the field of corporate governance.
Within the scope of the works of OECD’s Corporate Governance Committee, of which the CMB is a member as the national coordination unit on behalf of Türkiye, a thematic peer review was conducted by the OECD in 2024 regarding regulatory policy frameworks and good practices for general assembly meetings of companies whose shares are publicly traded.
By examining the policies and practices regarding general shareholder meetings of publicly traded companies for 50 major economies, the study sheds light on how various regulatory frameworks and corporate practices address issues of shareholder participation and interaction, voting rights and transparency of general shareholders' meetings.
In this study, the CMB on behalf of Türkiye was among the 5 countries that accepted the invitation to be included in the in-depth sample country review in the context of good practice examples. As a result of the works carried out with the support and contributions of our Board in cooperation with the Central Registry Agency of Türkiye in this process, the relevant report prepared by the OECD under the title of “Shareholder Meetings and Corporate Governance: Trends and Implications” was published on the OECD website on April 7, 2025. The report, in which the seventh chapter is devoted to the review of Türkiye, can be accessed through the link below.
